2026.08.2404:36:28UTC+00Sensex Starts Week With Modest Gains

India’s BSE Sensex inched up about 0.2% to 77,671 on Monday, after a subdued close in the previous session, as investors stayed cautious ahead of fresh US sanctions on Iran and continued to track elevated crude oil prices. Market participants were also awaiting remarks from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who was scheduled to hold a press conference later on Monday after vowing to impose what he called the “toughest sanctions in history” on Iran.

In sectoral moves, energy shares were likely to stay in focus after India’s downstream regulator cleared roughly 1,800 km of LPG pipelines, representing an investment of about $731.49 million. Among individual names, Meesho could see action as Y Combinator may sell up to a 1.05% stake via a $100.32 million block deal. Lenskart Solutions was also on the radar, with SoftBank reportedly set to offload as much as a 2.6% stake through a $300 million block deal at a 4% discount to Friday’s close.

Early gainers included Vishal (up 8.9%), Shanti Gears (up 15.1%), Welspun Corp (up 2.1%), and Muthoot (up 4.6%).
